Worship Services
10:15 a.m. on Sunday in person & via Zoom
Our worship style is ancient and future; classical and yet relaxed. We are a liturgical church, which means we'll be following an order of worship that dates back nearly 2000 years. It is a tradition rich in symbolism, from the white robes and colorful stoles worn by worship leaders to the procession of the cross. While it may sound a bit other-worldly, we promise it's not "stuffy". We embrace God's goodness and grace, which results in great joy and freedom from the need to be perfect.
On Sundays we've opted to be "unplugged". We have an excellent sound system, but we do not use projection or flat screen TV's in worship. We like the feel of picking up and holding a book -- something that uses less electricity and is re-usable--but we also provide an easy-to-follow bulletin.
Musically, you'll encounter hymns on an organ, spirituals played on the grand piano, and the occasional piece of folk music or jazz. Most weeks our worship is enriched by the offerings of our Hand-Bell and Chancel Choirs.
Wondering what to wear? People will be dressed in everything from power suits and posh dresses to t-shirts and jeans, and maybe even shorts and sandals.
Seasonal worship plans and schedules (Advent, Christmas, Lent & Easter) can be found on our NEWS page.
Holy Communion
Holy Communion is celebrated during all of our Sunday morning worship services and many of our occasional services. We have an Open Table, which means that everyone without exception is invited to receive the body (bread) and blood (wine) of Christ.
Wine is available in both a common cup (symbolizing our unity in Christ) and individual cups. Juice is also available by individual cup. The wine is red and the juice is clear. Our communion bread is whole wheat. Gluten-free wafers are also available for those who are gluten intolerant.
COMMUNION IN SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Members of the congregation have been trained by the pastor to distribute the sacrament of Holy Communion to persons who are unable to attend one of our regular worship services due to reasons of health or mobility. Those desiring home communion may contact the pastor or the church administrative assistant and arrangements will be made.
CHILDREN CAN BE WORSHIP LEADERS TOO
Young children are encouraged to be worship leaders by assisting their parents or other family members with ushering, greeting, and by serving as Basket Holders during Holy Communion. (Basket Holders are children of any age who hold a basket to collect the small plastic individual cups during communion). Our youngest members, even our two year olds, really enjoy helping in this way and we love seeing their smiles. Older children and youth are also encouraged to serve as lectors and acolytes.
CHILDREN RECEIVE COMMUNION
All baptized children who are old enough to drink from a cup and eat solid food are welcome to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion. If you would like your child to begin receiving Communion, or if you have questions about the church's decision to allow young children to commune, please contact the pastor.
