Hey! I’d love your help with my upcoming Thrivent Action Team: Cookies for First Responders
WHERE: LCR, 9100 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS 66206
“GOD’s WORK. OUR HANDS SUNDAY” is an annual opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. This year’s day of service takes place on the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2011, terrorist attacks on the United States. Our congregation will be saying "Thank You" and giving back to our local first responders by baking and delivering cookies following a joint 9:30 A.M. church service that morning. (A perfect opportunity to include neighbors and friends!)
Volunteers will also take home frozen cookie dough (provided by the church and paid for by THRIVENT) before hand, bake it on Saturday evening and bring the cookies to church morning of Sept. 11th. We have a LOT of chocolate chip and peanut butter cookie dough to share!!!
Families with children are encouraged to bake their cookies at the church as an inter-generational service project. We'll have the ovens, dough, and cookie sheets ready. Simply scoop the dough onto the pans and bake. Once the cookies are cool enough you'll box them and take a box to deliver to a fire or police department.
We will also make our own greeting / thank you cards (card stock & markers) and pack the baked goods into gift boxes for delivery. Delivery Teams will be formed to take the boxed cookies and cards to Fire and Police stations in our area. LUNCH AT CHURCH
ONE COMBINED WORSHIP SERVICE AT 9:30 A.M
COOKIE BAKING / CARD MAKING / PACKING AT 10:30
LUNCH AT THE CHURCH & COOKIE DELIVERIES FROM 11:30 -- 1:00
